Sony Pier Project

SONY - BEYOND THE PIER PROJECT

This was a wild 9 day journey. The crew consisted of Eric Rubens, Cas Sheridan, and myself. We set off to capture all 38 coastal public piers of California starting from Crescent City at the top to basically the boarder of Mexico. The objective was to showcase each pier in it’s glory with the new Sony 24mm f1.4 GM lens and Sony Tough Cards. Shots would consist of the pier, life around the pier, and everything that encompassed that area. We had to hit at least 3 to 4 piers daily to make it all happen in time. Photographing from sun up to sun down. That means that you always don’t get the best light or the craziest conditions, but it challenged us to utilize angles and shadows. The versatility of the lens was insane. Such a beast in low light and during the day. Perfect to capture the essence of a scene. We of course shot different focal lengths but 24mm was the focus. Despite the race against time, the raging California fires were happening during this mission. It caused a slight delay in the Malibu pier but we were able to loop back and capture it. California has one special coast and holds so much beauty. Special thanks to the guys and to Sony for sponsoring the trip! Here is an article from our journey as well as a short video about the mission! Hope you enjoy.
